"Ringgold" Story Quilts

After reading Faith Ringgold's "Tar Beach" students created their own story quilts. We began by creating rough drafts and then transerred these to a piece of fabric. Students all created patterns to share on strips of fabric with oil pastel and watercolors.

After we completed our 3-D dinosaurs we created 2-D dinosaurs in oil pastels. Here are a few of the results!

Van Gogh's Cats

Kindergarten students listened to the story, "Van Gogh's Cat." We then looked at patterns and added them to our own cats with oil pastels. They were completed with a watercolor wash and placed on a patterned paper.

Watercolor Weavings

This is always a successful project for the students. First students created a print on styrofoam we then created watercolor prints. Students selected 2 and added details with perm. pen. The last step was to weave both together.
